Episode One: Changes
In come the new and ouch go the old…in Hanover Square
Eva and Ads the professional couple have
just moved down from London to start a family and give Adam a chance to write
a novel. More immediate is the stress they are feeling organising their housewarming
party; which is causing much discussion in the Square.
Student Lauren who has been invited, drops by the newsagents
where owners Ken and Felicity are bickering
about going, with the obsequious Ken dismissing his wife whilst at the same
time fawning over Eva.
Cracks in their crumbling marriage are already beginning to show and Felicity
confides as much to her friend Jo, the local butcher's assistant.
Upset by Jo’s kind words, Felicity emotionally reveals that only the
death of Ken would rid her of her unhappiness.
Meanwhile in the Hamilton Arms landlady Vi is moaning about
the yuppie invasion to Mr Morrissey the butcher and tells
her put upon son Russ that she doesn't want him going to the
party. However, he has other plans.

Episode Two: Too Dizzy
The party is shaken and stirred…in Hanover Square
It's the night of newcomers Adam and Eva's housewarming
party and nothing seems to be going to plan. A queasy Adam helps art student Lauren clean
up his sick off her trousers, whilst her boyfriend James is
getting hot and bothered by the cleavage of sweet but strange looking Butcher's
assistant Jo. Revealing a soft spot for James she is soon
embarrassed and runs away.
Having sneaked away from his disapproving mother Vi, pub landlord Russ turns
up only to bump into boorish newsagent Ken who once again
proceeds to put his wife Felicity down. Later on love takes
over as Lauren and a stoned James get friendly in the garden and a sozzled
Ken, confusing Ads for Felicity, comes over all romantic.
Not enjoying the party is neighbour Nancy who wakes up bemused
husband Sid and kicks him out of bed demanding he goes next
door and complains. Though none of this is a concern to Adam and Eva who are
pleasantly shocked to find that their pregnancy kit has tested positive. Little
do they know that it had been used as a cocktail stirrer earlier.

Episode Three: Back To Where You’ve Never Been
Not only hangovers cause headaches…in Hanover Square
It's the day after Adam and Eva's housewarming
party, and the loved up couple are enjoying the welcome, unexpected news of
their pregnancy.
Meanwhile student Lauren and boyfriend James are
becoming increasingly upset with each other about their inability to find a
new house mate, with Lauren accusing James of not trying hard enough.
Up at the Hamilton Arms landlord Russ has difficulty stirring
gate crashing Mr Morrissey after both passed out in the bar
following a post-party nightcap. This sets off another confrontation between
Russ and his angry mother Vi about how the pub should be run,
resulting in Vi quitting her job as barmaid.
Finally, back at Adam and Eva's, their tidying up is disturbed by busy body
next door neighbour Nancy, beginning her long campaign of
interference by worming her way into Eva‘s affections much to Ads‘ chagrin.

Episode Four: No Control
There’s no time for happy hour…in Hanover Square
Over at the Hamilton Arms, Russ tries to build bridges with
his mother Vi after their recent disagreement, only for them
to descend into another argument. Russ ends up apologizing so that Vi will
take back her barmaid job so that he can go on a date.
Meanwhile at the Dwerger’s, local gossip Nancy has
again forced herself onto newcomer Eva under the guise of
trying to locate missing her husband Sid. This does not amuse Ads who
is becoming fed up with these visits. However Nancy is proved right when Sid
is discovered in the garden.
Later that evening back at the Hamilton Arms one of Mr Morrissey’s bemusing
anecdotes is interrupted by the entrance of business entrepreneurs and ex-lovers Raynard and David.
Having just arrived in Hanover Square, their frosty reception from an unwelcoming
homophobic Vi is soon forgotten as some shocking news is announced. On the
verge of being thrown out, a provocative Raynard reveals that he and David
are the new owners of the Square’s other pub; the derelict Cooper’s
Butt.

Episode Five: Under Pressure
Unwelcome visits and unexpected advice…in Hanover Square
With conversion work starting on their new trendy bar, business partners Raynard and David discuss
their homophobic builder and Raynard’s outlandish plans, only to be disturbed
by an unwanted ‘customer’ in the form of thirsty local scallywag
and schemer Sid, who successfully manages
to blag a free beer.
With his butchers trading next to a vegetarian co-operative shop, Mr
Morrissey once again becomes embroiled into swapping insults with
co-owner, lesbian and vegan separatist Di. Frustratingly
and literally caught in the middle is Di’s conjoined twin Rhea,
who as usual tries to act as peacemaker.
Tensions simmer between art student Lauren and her layabout
boyfriend James over their inability to find a new housemate.
After being accused of being sexually provocative towards male candidates,
Lauren further annoys James by revealing another piece in her line of experimental
clothing.
Back at the butchers, eccentric vicar Antonia tells an unimpressed
Mr Morrissey about her latest community group. After she has left, Mr Morrissey
and his accident prone apprentice Jo chat about her forthcoming
interview at the student house. Whilst reminiscing about living together, he
admits to feeling worried about Di’s vengeance towards his shop.

Episode Six: Take My Tip
Things go right when things go wrong…in Hanover Square
Antonia the vicar is out on her rounds trying to engage with
the community. Stopping by the vegetarian cooperative where co-owner Di and Rhea are
once again concerned about their different views on Mr Morrissey, with Di accusing
Rhea of fancying the butcher.
At the same time his assistant Jo is being interviewed by
art student Lauren and her boyfriend James who
are still seeking a new housemate. It soon descends into another farcical argument
about their relationship, causing Jo to leave in embarrassment. Unusually it
ends in the couple making up. However Jo is found by Felicity in
the Square’s garden. Initially tearful, she is soon cheered up by her
friend who offers to take her shopping.
Conversion work continues at the old Cooper’s Butt pub. An hysterical Raynard is
complaining about the colour scheme to David, only to be interrupted
by Sid, who attempts to make an early and
unwelcome claim for a seat at the bar, ignoring the business partner’s
efforts to put him off.
Finally we end up returning to the vegetarian cooperative. Making a rare entrance
- responding to a note- is Mr Morrissey. After his usual exchange
of insults with Di he is left bemused by her seemingly kind taking in of a
box of sausages, delivered whilst he was out. When he leaves, a suspicious
Rhea confronts Di who brushes off her questions.

Episode Seven: Scary Monsters and Super Creeps
Lies are shared, secrets bared…in Hanover Square
Its morning in Hanover Square and a cheery Di is confronted
about her uncharacteristic good humour by her Siamese twin Rhea,
who once again is accused of fancying Mr Morrissey after she twigs that Di
has done something to him.
What it is soon emerges as an angry Mr Morrissey storms into
their shop. It turns out that the box of sausages Di had been looking after
for the butcher were shit filled condoms. He also reveals that Council Health
and Safety officers had a tip off at the same time and are threatening to prosecute.
Over at the newsagents Felicity is serving a gossiping Nancy who
soon turns her attention to Felicity’s husband Ken,
and lets out that she knows a little too much about the couple’s lack
of sex life. This eventually leads them to having another row.
Nancy has by then moved onto the butcher’s and unwittingly plays the
part of cupid by mentioning to Mr Morrissey that, much to apprentice Jo’s discomfort,
Rhea has designs on him.
Finally, we return to Felicity who has gone to Eva’s for
a shoulder to cry on. Angry about her relationship with Ken, she is comforted
by Eva’s rather amusing suggestion and the offer of cracking open a bottle
of wine.

Episode Eight: Nothing To Be Desired
Two and two make war…in Hanover Square
With options running out finding a new house mate, Lauren and James decide
to make a decision. Inevitably disagreements ensue as both accuse each other
of fancying the various candidates and then being responsible for past house
mates leaving.
Spending time in their garden Ads and Eva are
interrupted by prying neighbour Nancy, who once again manages
to manipulate Eva. This time it’s to commit an upset Ads to helping out
tidying up Nancy’s garden.
At the newsagents, Ken is in a decisive mood, confronting
both paper delivery ‘boy’ Sid over his skiving
and wife Felicity over discussing problems in their relationship
to her friends. The latter conversation soon backfires as Felicity turns the
tables and brings up a few home truths herself.

Episode Nine: Little Wonder
A little knowledge goes a long way…in Hanover Square
Continuing to find fault in everything he sees Raynard once
again complains to David about the building work at their
new venture. David is more interested in staffing issues and the two eventually
agree to a compromise over their concerns.
Debate on this rival business is consuming pub owner Violet,
landlord Russ and loyal drinker Mr Morrissey,
whose latest bar musings are soon forgotten. Vi and Russ end up disagreeing
about the new pub and the potential impact on their livelihood.
Later, at the newsagents Ken is telling Mr Morrissey about
his recent argument with wife Felicity. Their conversation is abruptly curtailed
by the entrance of Harry, a child genius who wants to know
the address of the student house. Unimpressed by the boy butting in on them,
they learn that he is looking for somewhere to live and about to start studying
for a psychology degree at the university.
Unbeknownst to Harry, at the house in question, the latest in a long line
of failed candidates is seen out by a frustrated Lauren and
an upset James. No one it seems can fit their bill. This soon
resolves itself as Harry turns up and is met at the front door by James. Initially
dismissive of the precocious visitor, James’ is soon persuaded by a bag
of dope from Harry’s parents. Taking the bribe, James introduces Harry
to Lauren as his long lost brother.

Episode Ten: Hang On To Yourself
No news is bad news…in Hanover Square
Its late at night, and in their flat above the shop, newsagents Ken and Felicity come
to an unusual conclusion to yet another argument in their crumbling marriage.
Ken finally showing a bit of insight is enough to make Felicity drag her husband
to bed.
In the morning Ads attempts to seduce a working from home Eva are
thwarted by busy body neighbour Nancy, who is around for her
regular cup of tea.
Back at the newsagents a reluctant Felicity fields questions
from the Antonia and Eva about Ken who is acting rather strange.
Eventually she is forced to admit to a night of passion. Once the vicar has
departed Felicity informs her friend that Ken fancies her, much to Eva’s
disturbance.
Returning home Eva is surprised to discover Nancy alone and Adam missing.
None of her worries are allayed by the entrance of Sid who
is more concerned about getting home with Nancy to watch TV than the
whereabouts of Adam.
This all pales into insignificance as a furious and disheveled Adam storms
in after finding himself on the pensioners’ roof, having been duped to
go up there to fix their aerial after being told it was to rescue their cat.
Despite his righteous anger, Ads once again has the events manipulated to
suit the needs of the scheming Sid and Nancy.

Episode Eleven: Wishful Beginnings
It’s calm before the norm…in Hanover Square
It’s the day of child genius Harry’s moving in
to the student house. He gets off on the wrong foot with a sulking James only
to seek solace with a welcoming Lauren, who hints at knowing
that the two are not brothers.
James walks out of the house only to find unexpected support from newsagent Felicity who
has been left bemused by her latest interaction with eccentric vicar Antonia.
Sparks soon fly as Felicity’s words of advice get James hot under the
collar, much to the disgust of husband Ken.
At the vegetarian cooperative shop Rhea persuades conjoined
twin Di that they should build bridges with next door butcher Mr
Morrissey to avoid getting in further trouble. Stuck in the middle
of the warring parties Rhea attempts to play peacemaker almost backfire until
she placates Mr Morrissey with a surprising suggestion; an offer of a drink
at the Hamilton Arms. Though not afraid to use her feminine charms, Rhea makes
it clear that it is not a date.
The chain of events ends with butcher’s assistant Jo left
equally gob smacked by the usually tight fisted Mr Morrissey celebrating this
news with the offer of a fish and chip supper and a pint at the local.

Episode Twelve: Modern Love
One hand is better than none…in Hanover Square
In the final episode of the series Mr Morrissey is being
teased by Russ about his forthcoming date in the Hamilton
Arms with Rhea. The nervous butcher almost makes a hash of things with the
frosty Rhea who seems to have an agenda in mind. She soon
makes clear that the meeting is to discuss how their businesses can peacefully
co-exist, rather than it being a cozy little get together. A reprimanded Mr
Morrissey is about to give up when Rhea apologizes for being snappy. The evening
thus takes a turn for the better.
Meanwhile Adam and Eva are playing host
to Felicity and Ken who have come over for
dinner. Things soon start to turn sour as Ken becomes rather too free with
his opinions. He upsets Ads in the process, after Eva innocently reveals that
he is suffering from writer’s block. Ken’s patronizing offer
of help does not go down well. Later the men appear to have made up, much to
the surprise of Felicity who spills the beans with Eva on how she met her husband.
Returning to the Hamilton Arms, Violet gives Mr Morrissey
a few pointers about dating techniques, deliberately upsetting Russ by revealing
that she has cancelled a date he had arranged. However, all this advice unnecessary
as a Mr Morrissey finds Rhea in a generous mood, much to the disgust of her
conjoined twin Di. After being bowled over by a lot of drink
and a shared passion for David Bowie, a romantic Mr Morrissey gets his girl
with an impromptu rendition of Let’s Dance.
