Pick one: Broadcast date: 14th March 2006 In come the new and ouch go the old…in Hanover Square Eva and Ads the professional couple have just moved down from London and are stressed out with organising their housewarming party; which is causing much discussion in the Square. Student Lauren who has been invited, drops by the newsagents where owners Ken and Felicity are bickering about going, with the obsequious Ken dismissing his wife whilst at the same time fawning over Eva. Cracks in their crumbling marriage are already beginning to show and Felicity confides as much to her friend Jo, the local butcher's assistant. Meanwhile in the Hamilton Arms landlady Vi is moaning about the yuppie invasion to Mr Morrissey the butcher and tells her put upon son Russ that she doesn't want him going to the party. FELICITY to JO: "Tell you what, I'll pick out the wine and you come round at eight. Oh and put that sparkly boob tube on. You'll get a kick from watching my hot and bothered husband...One glance at those babies wandering round the flat and his eyes will be like marbles on a dinner plate." Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Eva…Ailsa McWhinnie Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Broadcast date: 28th March 2006 The party is shaken and stirred…in Hanover Square It's the night of newcomers Adam and Eva's housewarming party and nothing seems to be going to plan. A queasy Adam helps art student Lauren clean up sick off her trousers, whilst her boyfriend James is busy embarrassing sweet but strange looking Butcher's assistant Jo. Having sneaked away from his disapproving mother Vi, pub landlord Russ turns up only to bump into boorish newsagent Ken who once again proceeds to put his wife Felicity down. Later on love takes over as Lauren and James get friendly in the garden and a sozzled Ken gets friendly with someone who isn't his wife. Not enjoying the party are next door neighbours Sid and Nancy who are woken by the music and decide to take action. Though none of this is a concern to Adam and Eva who get a surprise when they find something unusual in a cocktail. KEN to RUSS: "Well as much as I'd like to say I had another wife, I do only have the one. Still, one must always remain positive. After all I could have married her after her looks went." Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Eva…Ailsa McWhinnie Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Episode 3: Back To Where You’ve Never Been Broadcast date: 11th April 2006 Not only hangovers cause headaches…in Hanover Square It's the day after Adam and Eva's housewarming party, and the loved up couple are enjoying their welcome, unexpected news. Meanwhile student Lauren and boyfriend James are becoming increasingly upset with each other about their inability to find a new house mate. Up at the Hamilton Arms landlord Russ has difficulty stirring gate crashing Mr Morrissey after both passed out in the bar following a post-party nightcap. This results in another confrontation between Russ and his angry mother Vi about how the pub should be run. Finally, back at Adam and Eva's, their tidying up is disturbed by busy body next door neighbour Nancy, beginning her long campaign of interference. LAUREN to JAMES: "Oh my God; the poor oppressed male! Get out there and burn your Y-fronts. Though a word of advice; take them off before you ignite them. In fact, don't. Leave them on. It might get you moving." Credits: Written by Nick McMaster with Claudia Mayfield Starring in order of appearance: Ads…Roland Maby Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Broadcast date: 25th April 2006 There’s no time for happy hour…in Hanover Square Over at the Hamilton Arms, Russ tries to build bridges with his mother Vi after their recent disagreement, only for them to descend into another argument. Meanwhile at the Dwerger’s, local gossip Nancy has again forced herself onto newcomer Eva under the guise of trying to locate missing her husband Sid. This does not amuse Ads who is becoming fed up with these visits. Later that evening back at the Hamilton Arms one of Mr Morrissey’s bemusing anecdotes is interrupted by the entrance of business entrepreneurs and ex-lovers Raynard and David. Having just arrived in Hanover Square, their frosty reception from an unwelcoming Vi is soon forgotten as some shocking news is announced. DAVID to RAYNARD: “Ray, wait. Remember what I said. Don’t make one of your ‘entrances’. We’re here to ingratiate ourselves with the locals, not to be seen as a threat. And Ray, not everyone is gay friendly. Just because this is Brighton and we’re on a hill does not mean we’re in the streets of San Francisco.” Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Russ…Nick McMaster Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Broadcast date: 9th May 2006 Unwelcome visits and unexpected advice…in Hanover Square With conversion work starting on their new trendy bar, business partners Raynard and David discuss their homophobic builder and Raynard’s outlandish plans, only to be disturbed by an unwanted ‘customer’ in the form of thirsty local scallywag and schemer Sid. With his butchers trading next to a vegetarian co-operative shop, Mr Morrissey once again becomes embroiled into swapping insults with co-owner, lesbian and vegan separatist Di. Frustratingly and literally caught in the middle is Di’s conjoined twin Rhea, who as usual tries to act as peacemaker. Tensions simmer between student Lauren and her layabout boyfriend James. Initially over their search for a new flatmate their frustrations boil over into an argument about Lauren’s rather experimental art works. Back at the butchers, eccentric vicar Antonia tells an unimpressed Mr Morrissey about her latest community group. After she has left, Mr Morrissey and his accident prone apprentice Jo chat about her moving out , the problems of living together and the threat to his trade from that shop next door. ANTONIA to MR MORRISSEY: “Actually, it’s a children’s violin group, and it’s very popular. Trouble is I’m not getting that many children to it. In fact it’s full of older men. I don’t know why they would want to go to “Kiddie Fiddlers”, but it’s a queer old world -a queer old world- out there Mr Morrissey. So, I decided to make a poster to attract my target group. Though we’ve already run out of seats…But one nice gent suggested that any young lad is welcome to sit on his lap.” Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Raynard…Stephen Ashby Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Broadcast date: 23rd May 2006 Things go right when things go wrong…in Hanover Square Antonia the vicar is out on her rounds trying to engage with the community. Stopping by the vegetarian cooperative where co-owner Di and Rhea are once again concerned about their different views on next door’s butcher Mr Morrissey. At the same time his assistant Jo is being interviewed by art student Lauren and her boyfriend James who are still seeking a new housemate. It soon descends into another farcical argument about their relationship, causing Jo to leave in embarrassment. She is found by Felicity in the Square’s garden and is soon cheered up. Conversion work continues at the old Cooper’s Butt pub. An hysterical Raynard is complaining about the colour scheme to David, only to be interrupted by Sid, who attempts to make an early and unwelcome claim for a seat at the bar. Finally we end up returning to the vegetarian cooperative. Making a rare entrance - responding to a note- is Mr Morrissey. After his usual exchange of insults with Di he is left bemused by her seemingly kind taking in of a box of sausages, delivered whilst he was out. A suspicious Rhea looks on. DAVID to RAYNARD: “Do I look like a straight man? This is Homebase paint. I wanted the ‘Cornelia Rosetti Manhattan Interiors’ range. I go to motorway service stations to pick up men, not ideas for colour schemes. Christ, my fabulous dream is turning into a Travelodge.” Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Rhea…Rocky Ciccone Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Episode 7: Scary Monsters and Super Creeps Listen to Episode 7Broadcast date: 6th June 2006 Lies are shared, secrets bared…in Hanover Square It’s morning in Hanover Square and a cheery Di is confronted about her uncharacteristic good humour by sister Siamese twin Rhea. The reasons for this soon emerge as an angry Mr Morrissey storms into their shop. Over at the newsagents Felicity is serving a gossiping Nancy who soon turns her attention to Felicity’s husband Ken. This eventually leads the couple to having another row about their lack of sex life. Nancy has by then moved onto the butcher’s and unwittingly plays the part of cupid much to apprentice Jo’s discomfort before taking a trip down memory lane. Finally we return to Felicity who has gone to Eva’s for a shoulder to cry on. Angry about her relationship with Ken, she is comforted by Eva’s rather amusing suggestion. FELICITY to EVA: “I’m the one that gave everything up! There I was, sitting pretty at King’s College, about to start a Languages and International Law degree, and what do I do. I fall for my total antithesis! Just picture me Eva: Hippy child of liberal social anthropologists finds love with someone completing an Advertising Studies course from some ‘College’ above a carpet shop. I had the world at my shoeless feet and so decided my future lay with a man who looked like a Polish minicab driver.” Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Rhea…Rocky CicconeDi…Elaine Colomberg Mr Morrissey…Trevor Scales Felicity…Claudia Mayfield Nancy…Cathy Byrne Ken…Trevor Scales Jo…Cathy Byrne Eva…Ailsa McWhinnie Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Episode 8: Nothing To Be Desired Broadcast date: 20th June 2006 Two and two make war…in Hanover Square With options running out finding a new house mate, Lauren and James decide to make a decision, picking from their current candidates. Inevitably disagreements ensue. Spending time in their garden Ads and Eva are interrupted by prying neighbour Nancy, who once again manages to manipulate a situation to her advantage. At the newsagents, Ken is in a decisive mood, confronting both paper delivery ‘boy’ Sid and wife Felicity over issues on his mind. The latter conversation soon backfires as Felicity turns the tables and brings up a few home truths herself. SID to KEN: “Well I asked him to ‘borrow’ some lighter fuel from your shop, which, granted was good of him. But then he went all cry babyish after getting a little bit burnt from the flames. You’d have thought he was six not seven years old with all that wailing. I told him to wear long sleeves when throwing the match in.” Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Lauren…Shailja Dubé Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Broadcast date: 4th July 2006 A little knowledge goes a long way…in Hanover Square Continuing to find fault in everything he sees Raynard once again complains to David about the building work at their new venture. Debate on this rival business is consuming pub owner Violet, landlord Russ and loyal drinker Mr Morrissey, whose latest bar musings are soon forgotten. Later, at the newsagents Ken is telling Mr Morrissey about his recent argument with wife Felicity. Their conversation is abruptly curtailed by the entrance of Harry, a precocious child who is looking for an address in the Square. Unbeknownst to Harry, at the student house the latest in a long line of failed candidates is seen out by a frustrated Lauren and an upset James. No one it seems can fit their bill. MR MORRISSEY to KEN: “Its not rocket science Ken. Nancy is the Ground Zero of idle chit chat; which is odd considering what could be spread about her. She has more baggage than Posh Spice at Heathrow Airport.” Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Raynard…Stephen Ashby Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Episode 10: Hang On To Yourself Broadcast date: 18th July 2006 No news is bad news…in Hanover Square Its late at night and in their flat above the shop, newsagents Ken and Felicity come to an unusual conclusion to yet another argument in their crumbling marriage. In the morning Ads attempts to seduce a working from home Eva are thwarted by busy body neighbour Nancy. Back at the newsagents a reluctant Felicity fields questions from the vicar Antonia and Eva about Ken who is acting rather strange. Returning home Eva is surprised to discover Nancy alone and Adam missing. None of her worries are allayed by the entrance of Sid who is more concerned about getting home with Nancy to watch TV than the whereabouts of Adam. This all pales into insignificance as a furious and disheveled Adam storms in after finding himself in an unusual predicament. KEN to EVA: “I understand that a lot of women smoke because they believe it keeps them thinner. Well you certainly don’t need to worry about anything on that score; not with your fine figure. Whereas I encourage my Felicity to smoke as much as she likes. She needed five packets of Capstan’s Full Strength to get into your favourite skirt for your party.” Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Ken…Trevor Scales Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Episode 11: Wishful Beginnings Broadcast date: 1st August 2006 It’s calm before the norm…in Hanover Square It’s the day of child genius Harry’s moving in to the student house. He gets off on the wrong foot with a sulking James only to seek solace with a welcoming Lauren. James walks out of the house only to find unexpected support from newsagent Felicity who has been left bemused by her latest interaction with eccentric vicar Antonia. Sparks soon fly as Felicity’s words of advice get James hot under the collar, much to the disgust of husband Ken. At the vegetarian cooperative shop Rhea persuades conjoined twin Di that they should build bridges with next door butcher Mr Morrissey. Stuck in the middle of the warring parties Rhea attempts to play peacemaker almost backfire until she placates Mr Morrissey with a surprising suggestion. The chain of events ends with butcher’s assistant Jo left equally gob smacked by a small, generous offer. JO to MR MORRISSEY: “Are you sure you’re ok? You did bang your head on the walk-in fridge door earlier whilst trying to catch that defrosted pig. You’re probably concussed. I best call a doctor.” Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Harry…Celia Healy Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster Broadcast date: 15th August 2006 One hand is better than none…in Hanover Square In the final episode of the series Mr Morrissey is being teased by Russ about his forthcoming date in the Hamilton Arms with Rhea. The nervous butcher almost makes a hash of things with the frosty Rhea who seems to have an agenda in mind. Meanwhile Adam and Eva are playing host to Felicity and Ken who have come over for dinner. Things soon start to turn sour as Ken becomes rather too free with his opinions, upsetting Ads in the process. Later the men appear to have made up, much to the surprise of Felicity who spills the beans with Eva on how she met her husband. Returning to the Hamilton Arms, Violet gives Mr Morrissey a few pointers about dating techniques whilst deliberately upsetting her son Russ. However, all this advice is unnecessary as a romantic Mr Morrissey finds Rhea in a generous mood -much to the disgust of Di - after being bowled over by a lot of drink and a shared interest. VI to MR MORRISSEY: “As I was saying Mr Morrissey, if you care to listen, Rhea has been exhibiting one of the major signs of sluttish behaviour. She’s been fiddling with her hair. Though thank God she hasn’t been mirroring your gestures, because I wouldn’t want two of my customers looking like swine at a trough.” Credits: Written by Nick McMaster Starring in order of appearance: Mr Morrissey…Trevor Scales Edited by Claudia Mayfield and Nick McMaster |
